A little about me:
Ms. Heather joined BHMS in 2019. She holds her AMI Primary Diploma from Washington Montessori Institute, and an M.Ed concentrated in Montessori from Loyola University, Maryland. Heather received her Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator Certificate (CPDPE) in 2023. Heather has worked in Montessori education since 2007. Both of Heather’s children completed Montessori education through Children’s House. In her free time she enjoys gardening, yoga, reading, doing puzzles, and dance parties with her children and husband.

How many years have you been in the field of education?
I taught for 10 years before changing over to Administration in 2019, but then tacked another year of teaching during the 2024-2025 school year!

What is your favorite lesson/thing to teach?
I love most Practical Life lessons. I also love to give lessons on the Stamp Game.
What is your educational background?
I have my AMI Primary Training Diploma from WMI in Maryland. I received this after working as a Montessori Assistant Teacher for a couple of years. I have a certificate in AMI Leadership, AMI 0-3 Orientation, and Positive Discipline Education for Parents.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I have been a teacher since I was 5 years old giving lessons to my stuffed animals on a giant chalkboard in my attic! The neighborhood children would follow me around so I would help them or teach them - their most favorite thing was to learn how to do cartwheels. I was also babysitting growing up and later became a nanny before entering Montessori education.
What is an interest or hobby you do outside of school?
I enjoy reading, yoga, gardening and playing board games with my children.
What is your favorite Early Childhood Book?
I love giving out, "Montessori From the Start", by Paul Polk Lillard to anyone who is expecting their first child. It's a great book to start learning about Montessori and how it all starts even when the baby is in utero.
A children's song that you could listen to all day?
Anything Jack Johnson sings! Also, I find myself singing "Set your Piggies Free" from Sesame Street, sung by Ziggy Marley.
